Saviola blow for Sevilla

Sevilla FC will be missing influential Argentina forward Javier Saviola for at least three weeks after he suffered knee ligament damage.

Sevilla FC will be missing Argentina forward Javier Saviola for at least three weeks after he was injured in Sunday's league game at Villarreal CF.

Viera collision
Saviola appeared as a 65th-minute substitute in the 1-1 draw at El Madrigal, but suffered a sprain to the lateral external ligament of his left knee as well as bruising after colliding with Villarreal's debutant goalkeeper Mario Sebastian Viera.

Mainz absence
Sevilla medical chief Juan de Dios Beas confirmed the injury after tests on Monday. Saviola will likely be sidelined for between three and four weeks, meaning he will sit out Thursday's UEFA Cup first round first leg at home to 1. FSV Mainz 05 and almost certainly the return in Germany on 29 September.
