Sevilla disruption for Makukula

Sevilla FC striker Ariza Makukula is set to undergo a second operation in less than 12 months to remedy an ongoing problem with his right knee.

Recurring problem
The 24-year-old suffered damage to the cartilage and blood vessels in his right knee during a pre-season friendly against Bolton Wanderers FC in July. While keyhole surgery appeared to have cleaned up the trouble, a recurrence of the injury has persuaded medical staff that further surgery will be needed.

Torn ligament
Makukula has faced lengthy lay-offs before - in February 2004 he went under the knife to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee whilst he was playing at his previous club, Real Valladolid. Doctors have rejected the idea that the new injury could be related to his old injury.
