Cernea knock
The Romanian champions saw first-choice custodian Vassili Khomutovski depart for Russian outfit FC Tom Tomsk at the beginning of the month and when his replacement, Cornel Cernea was injured yesterday coach Cosmin Olaroiu was left with just one goalkeeper – untried 19-year-old Marius Toma. But the club are set to add Carlos Fernandes to their ranks after announcing on their website that they have reached an agreement with Boavista.
Heerenveen tie
The 26-year-old, who has made 12 Portuguese Superliga appearances this season, will join the Steaua squad at their training camp on Sunday, where he will undergo a medical and settle personal terms. He would then be eligible to represent the Romanian side in their UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie against SC Heerenveen next month.
