Stuttgart pin hopes on Gentner

VfB Stuttgart are convinced Christian Gentner has "a bright future" after offering the 20-year-old a two-year contract extension until 2010.

Promising midfielder Christian Gentner has extended his contract with VfB Stuttgart by two years until 2010.

Academy product
A product of the prestigious Stuttgart youth academy, the 20-year-old Gentner has established himself under Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni this season, playing 13 Bundesliga matches and four in the UEFA Cup. He will hope to add to that tally when the German side tackle Middlesbrough FC in the Round of 32 next month.

'Bright future'
Stuttgart sporting director Horst Heldt said: "Christian has outstanding skills and is very experienced for his age. He is a local lad and fits in perfectly at the club. I am convinced that he will continue to make progress and that he has a bright future ahead of him."
