Cesar blow hurts Marseille

Olympique de Marseille centre-back Bostjan Cesar could be out for eight weeks after suffering a facial injury during Sunday's 1-0 defeat at FC Metz.

Broken bone
The Slovenian international cracked his forehead when challenging Metz striker Souleymane Youla for a high ball and may miss the rest of the French side's UEFA Cup campaign. "The bone is broken into several pieces," said OM president Pape Diouf. "It will make things more complicated. He should be sidelined for six weeks to two months."

Fernandez surgery
The 23-year-old will certainly sit out Thursday's UEFA Cup Round of 32 second-leg tie against Bolton Wanderers FC. Marseille, who held Bolton to a goalless draw in England, are also expected to be without coach Jean Fernandez, who had kidney stones removed on Monday. "We hope to have Jean back as soon as possible," Diouf said.
