Schmitz secures Lille future

LOSC Lille Métropole have handed defender Rafael Schmitz a new contract, keeping him with the French UEFA Cup contenders until June 2010.

Trophy ambition
The 25-year-old Brazilian has been with Lille since the 2001/02 campaign and has figured 21 times in Ligue 1 this season. "I feel my performances are being recognised by this new contract. A nice story will continue and I hope it will end with a trophy," he said. Schmitz's previous deal was due to expire in 2008.
