FC Zenit St. Petersburg's Russian international forward Andrei Arshavin has been banned for three UEFA competition matches following his sending-off in the UEFA Cup quarter-final first leg against Sevilla FC.
Red card
Arshavin was dismissed in the 89th minute of Zenit's 4-1 defeat in Spain, red-carded for elbowing an opponent in the face. He had already been cautioned in the 76th minute, to add to two other bookings collected earlier in this season's competition.
Second leg
He must therefore serve a three-match ban, starting with the second-leg tie in St Petersburg on Thursday. The second and third games the 24-year-old will sit out will depend on Zenit's result against Sevilla, and could be held over until next season. An appeal may be lodged against the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body's decision by 7 April.
