SBV Vitesse midfield player Nicky Hofs looks set to miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.
The 19-year-old collapsed in the warm-up for the Netherlands' Under-21 encounter with Germany on Tuesday and the problem is much worse than first feared. Indeed, a scan yesterday showed the full extent of the injury and Hofs underwent surgery today to repair ripped tendons in his left knee. The recovery period should be around eight months.
Vitesse coach Mike Snoei received more bad news today as defender Ruud Knol was ruled out of next Thursday's UEFA Cup third round first-leg tie against Liverpool FC. Knol suffered complications as he returned from a knee problem and is now out for two further weeks.
