King, 25, picked up the problem in training with a scan revealing cartilage damage. The centre-back had recovered from the broken metatarsal bone in his left foot, sustained in April, which forced him out of England's FIFA World Cup plans. Tottenham manager Martin Jol said: "Ledley had an operation this afternoon and will be back playing in five or six weeks. We must get on with it, but it is a blow." King has made 172 Premiership appearances in eight seasons with the north London club.
