Scotland defender David Weir has followed his former international manager Walter Smith to Rangers FC, joining the Glasgow club on a free transfer from Everton FC.

'A terrific move'
Weir becomes the first signing of Smith's second spell in the Rangers hot seat, having accepted a contract until the end of the season. "I have had the pleasure of working with Walter before and I can't wait to team up with him at Ibrox. This is a terrific move for me at this stage of my career and I am eager to get started," said the 36-year-old centre-back, who had been brought to Everton from Heart of Midlothian FC when Smith was boss at Goodison Park in 1999. Weir went on to make 235 Premiership appearances for Everton and was captain of the English side. Smith left the Scotland helm to rejoin Rangers last week.
