Boavista fear Sánchez surgery

Boavista FC's Erwin Sánchez may miss the rest of the season due to a knee ligament injury.

Boavista FC's Bolivian international midfield player Erwin Sánchez could miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Surgery doubt
The 32-year-old has been told to rest for four to six weeks after scans revealed a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Doctors will decide next month if the injury requires surgery, but even if it does not, Sánchez is already doubtful for the UEFA Cup fourth round first-leg tie against Hertha BSC Berlin in Berlin on 20 February.

Boavista stalemate
Sánchez sustained the problem during Sunday's 0-0 draw with CD Nacional at the Bessa stadium. The result left Boavista, Portuguese champions in 2001, in 14th place in the 18-team Super Liga.
