UEFA Cup contenders FC Shakhtar Donetsk have added to their considerable Brazilian contingent with the signing of 19-year-old striker Luiz Adriano from €3m from SC Internacional de Porto Alegre.
Although the youth international has signed too late to join Shakhtar's European campaign, which continues on Thursday with the away first leg of their Round of 16 tie against holders Sevilla FC, he will be available from this weekend when his club resume their Ukrainian Premier League campaign after the winter break four points behind FC Dynamo Kyiv. He has signed a five-year contract.
Luiz Adriano helped Internacional to victory in December's FIFA Club World Cup, scoring the semi-final winner against Al-Ahly Club and then helping his team defeat FC Barcelona for the trophy in Yokohama, having only made his debut last summer as an attacking midfielder. In January he was part of the Brazil side that won the South American Under-20 Championship, and at Shakhtar will link up with compatriots Brandão, Elano Blumer, Fernandinho, Jadson Rodriguez and Matuzalem.
