Sochaux pick up Perquis

UEFA Cup hopefuls FC Sochaux-Montbéliard have agreed to take AS Saint-Etienne defender Damien Perquis on loan with the option for a permanent move.

The 23-year-old former French Under-21 international will undergo a medical tomorrow, after which he will complete his move. He joined Les Verts in 2005 from hometown side ES Troyes Aube-Champagne, but has made only 34 league appearances since. Sochaux coach Frédéric Hantz said: "He is a player who will want revenge. He will also be very helpful during the African Cup of Nations as many of our defensive players will be there." French Cup holders Sochaux will enter the UEFA Cup first round on 20 September and will find out their opponents a week today, but of more immediate concern is Ligue 1, in which they have just two points from four games ahead of Saturday’s trip to Valenciennes FC.
