Hamburg too hot for Honvéd

Hamburger SV 4-0 Budapest Honvéd FC (agg: 4-0) José Paolo Guerrero scored twice as Rafael van der Vaart inspired the Bundesliga side to an easy win.

Hamburger SV brushed aside the nerves that saw them limited to a draw in Budapest two weeks ago to comfortably beat Budapest Honvéd FC and win through to the UEFA Cup first round.

Guerrero double
The Bundesliga outfit enjoyed a perfect start as José Paolo Guerrero latched on to Rafael van der Vaart's unselfish pass to score on ten minutes. It gave Huub Stevens' side the confidence they needed and they went on to dominate the first half, doubling their lead six minutes before the interval courtesy of the same combination that had created the opener - Van der Vaart crossing for Guerrero to head in.

Van der Vaart impresses
Van der Vaart had sat out the opening leg but was inspirational in Germany and could easily have added his name on the scoresheet when he went close with a free-kick. It was 3-0 on 50 minutes, however, when Thimothée Atouba's cross was turned into his own net by the unlucky Mico Smiljanic. With their place in Friday's first round draw now all but guaranteed, Hamburg eased off but still managed to score a fourth when 18-year-old substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting struck after an assist from Atouba in added time.
