Leverkusen face up to Sarpei loss

Bayer 04 Leverkusen may have to begin their UEFA Cup campaign without Hans Sarpei after the Ghana international suffered a groin strain in Friday's 1-1 draw with FC Schalke 04.

The 31-year-old lasted just 25 minutes of the Bundesliga fixture before being replaced at left-back by Vratislav Greško. Sarpei is expected to be out for a fortnight, meaning he could miss Bayer's UEFA Cup first round first-leg meeting with Portuguese side UD Leiria on 20 September. He should be back for the return two weeks later, however.
