Bayer 04 Leverkusen's René Adler signed a three-year contract extension until summer 2012 before the UEFA Cup challengers lost 1-0 at home to FC Bayern München on Saturday.

Völler delight
The 22-year-old has been with the club since 2000 and finally replaced Jörg Butt as No1 last season, prompting his rival to move to SL Benfica. "His style of goalkeeping represents the future and I'm glad we've reached an agreement," said Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Völler. Adler added: "Something is happening here and I want to be part of this young team." Leverkusen lead UD Leiria 3-1 going into Thursday's second leg of their UEFA Cup first-round tie in Portugal.
