Bolton Wanderers FC have named Gary Megson as their new manager as they prepare to take on SC Braga in their opening UEFA Cup Group F game this evening.

Disappointing start
The 48-year-old, who left his previous post as manager of Leicester City FC yesterday, has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Premier League club, who dismissed his predecessor Sammy Lee earlier this month after a disappointing start to the league. They are currently bottom of the English table having picked up five points from ten games.

'The right man'
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside said: "We feel Gary is the right man to take Bolton Wanderers forward. I have paid particular attention to his career and he has demonstrated to me that he is prepared to roll his sleeves up and has the right temperament for a battle, which this season is undoubtedly going to be. We have made decisive decisions over the past few weeks and this is one of them."

Managerial career
A former defensive midfielder, most notably with Sheffield Wednesday FC, Megson previously coached Norwich City FC, Blackpool FC, Stockport County FC, Stoke City FC, West Bromwich Albion FC, Nottingham Forest FC and Leicester. Bolton face Braga at home in their opening Group F game and then take on FC Bayern München away, FC Aris Thessaloniki at home and FK Crvena Zvezda away. His first game in charge will be against Aston Villa FC on Sunday with caretaker manager Archie Knox overseeing tonight's UEFA Cup game.
