Atlético braced for Forlán absence

Club Atlético de Madrid's Uruguayan international Diego Forlán has pulled a muscle in his left thigh, prompting a striker crisis at the UEFA Cup contenders.

Club Atlético de Madrid's Uruguay striker Diego Forlán will be out of action for two to three weeks after pulling a muscle in his left thigh.

Medical tests
The 28-year-old left the pitch after 23 minutes of his side's 4-3 Primera División win against Sevilla FC last night and tests today confirmed the nature of his injury. He will miss this weekend's match against his old club, Villarreal CF, and possibly Uruguay's internationals against Chile and Brazil on 17 and 21 November.

Striker shortage
However, with Atlético not playing on UEFA Cup Matchday 2, he is expected to be fit in time for their second Group B tie against Aberdeen FC on 29 November. With Mista also injured, coach Javier Aguirre will be left with one recognised forward, Argentinian starlet Agüero, for Atlético's next two games. Forlán has scored four goals in ten Primera División outings this season. The former Manchester United FC player was also on target as Atlético began their Group B campaign with a 3-3 draw at FC Lokomotiv Moskva on 25 October.
