Guttman takes over at Hapoel Tel-Aviv

Eli Guttman has been appointed as coach of Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC, and he has from now until the end of the season to lift them off the foot of the table.

Eli Guttman has been appointed coach of struggling Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC until the end of the season. He replaces Guy Luzon who left the club nine days ago after defeat sent them bottom of the Ligat Ha'Al table.

'Great privilege'
Guttman arrives having quit at the helm of Cypriot side AEL Limassol FC earlier this week. "I see it as a great privilege to coach Hapoel Tel-Aviv," he said. "I was glad to receive the club's approach. I see Hapoel as a leading club and will try and restore them to their glory days." He has tasted glory before, guiding Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC to a State Cup victory in 1997 before leading Hapoel Haifa FC to their first championship in 2000. Neither club is operating in Israel's top flight any more, however, and Guttman will have his work cut out to help Hapoel Tel-Aviv avoid a similar fate. The side are also fighting for their UEFA Cup lives, and will face Aalborg BK in the final Group G outing on 19 December.
