The day after exiting the UEFA Cup, FC Lokomotiv Moskva have named former player Rashid Rakhimov as their new coach.

Three-year deal
Rakhimov, a 44-year-old former boss of FC Amkar Perm, has signed a three-year deal. After Yuri Semin ended his long reign in 2005, Lokomotiv have been led by Vladimir Eshtreko, Slavoljub Muslin, Oleg Dolmatov and Anatoliy Byshovets, who was sacked after a seventh-placed finish in Russia this season - Lokomotiv's worst position since the end of the Soviet Union. Rinat Bilyaletdinov took over as caretaker, but their interest in Europe was ended by a 2-0 defeat at Panathinaikos FC last night.

Amkar achievement
The new coach played for Lokomotiv from 1993-94, and also represented FC Spartak Moskva as well as several teams in Austria. It was there that Rakhimov began his coaching career before joining Amkar for the 2007 season, leading them to a new high of eighth place, level on points with Lokomotiv.
