SL Benfica have paid Sevilla FC €3.5m for Ariza Makukula, with the Portuguese international striker signing a four-and-a-half year contract with the Lisbon giants.

Impressive form
Congo-born Makukula, 26, arrives at Benfica after excelling on loan over the first half of the season with CS Marítimo, scoring seven goals in 13 Portuguese Liga games. He leaves Sevilla after an injury-blighted spell since signing in 2004 that restricted him to just 13 league appearances in Spain. His form with Marítimo has proved enough to win him three caps for Portugal however, scoring on his debut against Kazakhstan in October.
