Everton FC have signed Tottenham Hotspur FC's Anthony Gardner as central defensive cover following the departure of former captain Alan Stubbs for Derby County FC.
Stubbs replacement
With Stubbs moving to Derby County for first-team football, Everton have brought in Gardner – capped once by England – to understudy centre-backs Joleon Lescott, Joseph Yobo and Phil Jagielka. Gardner joins David Moyes's men on loan until the end of the season. The 27-year-old has played 114 Premier League games since transferring to Tottenham from Port Vale FC in 1999/2000.
Anderson exit
Everton have also sold midfielder Anderson da Silva to first-division side Barnsley FC. The 25-year-old Brazilian made just one top-flight appearance for the Toffees, and though an unused substitute in Everton's draw with Tottenham yesterday, has spent much of the campaign at Barnsley on loan.
