Redknapp departure
Adams, 42, had been in Redknapp's team of assistants at Fratton Park and along with Joe Jordan took caretaker charge for Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw with Fulham FC, just hours after the previous manager replaced Juande Ramos at Tottenham. Former Arsenal FC defender Adams has signed a two-year contract but the full coaching team is yet to be announced. Meanwhile, Peter Storrie has taken the role of Portsmouth executive chairman.

Arsenal legend
Capped 66 times by England over 13 years, Adams spent his entire playing career at Arsenal, winning four league titles and three FA Cups, including two doubles, as well as the 1993/94 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. The only player to captain a club to English championships in three different decades, Adams retired from playing in 2002 and the following year began a 12-month spell as Wycombe Wanderers FC manager, before accepting trainee coaching positions at both Feyenoord and FC Utrecht in the Netherlands. He moved to Portsmouth under Redknapp in June 2006 and last season the team lifted the FA Cup for the first time in 69 years, earning a UEFA competition debut.

Milan visit
"I'm very honoured, it's a great opportunity and one that I'd be mad to turn down," Adams said. "I'm very excited and can't wait to get going. I've been here for two and a half years and it's business as usual. I've got some great players and I've been responsible with Harry for bringing them to the club. Harry's done a fantastic job, he's a hard act to follow, but I think I'm ready and for me it's the next step. I spoke to [Arsène] Wenger last night for advice and he said, 'Welcome to Hell!'" Portsmouth lost their opening UEFA Cup Group E fixture 3-0 at SC Braga last Thursday and, after sitting out Matchday 2, will welcome AC Milan to the south coast on 27 November.
