Opportunity knocks for Oper

Estonian international striker Andres Oper has joined FC Torpedo Moskva from Aalborg BK for around €400,000.

Done and dusted
The 2002 Estonian player of the year completed the move on Thursday morning. He has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Russian Premier League side.

'A strong team'
Oper, who cost AaB €1m when they bought him from FC Flora in 1999, said: "Torpedo are a strong team, they will compete in the UEFA Cup, and I will do my best to help the club reach the highest possible position in the league. It is a new and very interesting challenge for me and I am really looking forward to it.

'The right move'
"I have been brought here to score goals and my intention is to score as many as I can. I played four seasons in Denmark, so it was the right time to move on." Oper's first task will be to fight for a place in the side with former international Aleksandr Shirko, Russian Under-21 prospect Igor Lebedenko and Bolivian triallist Roger Suarez.

Move up
If his international clearance comes through in time, he could be in the squad for Torpedo's league game against Krylya Sovetov Samara on Saturday. He added: "I believe the Russian league is stronger than the Danish. Their clubs qualify for the UEFA Champions League whereas Danish clubs don't. I see this move as a step forward in my career."

Scoring record
The striker arrives in Moscow having scored 28 goals in 80 games for AaB, including eleven in the last Danish season. Oper has also excelled for Estonia, registering 23 goals in 80 appearances including a famous double when the national team beat Russia 2-1 last year.
