Hamburger SV have completed the signing of 22-year-old striker Marcus Berg from Eredivisie side FC Groningen for an undisclosed fee.

Summer awards
The seven-cap Swedish international has signed a contract until June 2014 with the Bundesliga club off the back of an outstanding UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals. Berg scored seven goals in four appearances, making him the top scorer at the tournament by some distance, and he was elected as the best player of the competition. Prior to that, he had displayed his goalscoring prowess at Groningen, striking 37 goals in 60 league matches. Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia said: "I'm very happy that we managed to sign Marcus Berg. He is a striker who shows great determination to score goals. He proved that in an impressive fashion over the last three years and during the recent U21 European Championship."

Berg delight
"I'm glad that the move has finally been settled," said Berg, who won the Swedish title with IFK Göteborg in 2007 before moving to the Netherlands. "Hamburger SV is a top club in the Bundesliga and I want to contribute with good performances and as many goals as possible in order to be successful here. During my first visit to Hamburg I noticed that the conditions here are fantastic and it's a beautiful city." HSV will start their UEFA Europa League campaign in the third qualifying round, the first leg of their tie being away to either FK Sūduva or Randers FC.
