Republic of Ireland midfield player Steven Reid has completed a €3.5m move to Blackburn Rovers FC.

Republic of Ireland midfield player Steven Reid has completed a move to English Premiership club Blackburn Rovers FC.

Four-year contract
The UEFA Cup contenders have paid first division club Millwall FC €3.5m for his services after he completed a medical at Ewood Park last night. Reid, 22, has signed a four-year contract.

Versatile performer
"He's a young player who can play on both flanks, through the middle and full back at a push," Blackburn manager Graeme Souness told the club's offical website. Reid had already settled on personal terms with Rovers last week after the clubs agreed the deal.

Duff and Dunn out
Blackburn have been busy in the transfer market this summer, selling Damien Duff and David Dunn to Chelsea FC and Birmingham City FC respectively. The club have also acquired several new faces, including Australian midfield player Brett Emerton, Italian defender Lorenzo Amoruso and American goalkeeper David Yelldell.

World Cup honour
Reid represented Ireland at the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals in Korea/Japan, appearing in two matches. The player had spent eleven years with London club Millwall and had described the possibility of a move to Blackburn as the "biggest decision of my life".
