UEFA Europa League anthem makes debut

The soundtrack for the new UEFA Europa League competition has been aired for the first time after it heralded the beginning of the inaugural group stage draw at Monaco's Grimaldi Forum.

In spring this year the orchestra of the Paris Opera recorded a unique piece of music, for a less than predictable audience, under the direction and watchful eye of composer Yohann Zveig. Today that music has been played around the world as the anthem for the UEFA Europa League, during the broadcast of the draw for the group stage of Europe's new club competition.

Evocative soundtrack
The timing of the first official introduction of the anthem to representatives of the 48 clubs participating in the inaugural UEFA Europa League group stage was highly symbolic. As will be the case in every UEFA Europa League match, the action at the draw only started once the competition anthem had been played. The distinctive music sounding around the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco was one of a number of UEFA Europa League launch activities preceding the draw, giving a sense of the atmosphere that will be felt immediately before a UEFA Europa League game.

Opening sequence for broadcasts
The anthem will be played prior to each match in stadiums across Europe, as well as featuring in all global broadcasts of the UEFA Europa League as the musical element of the competition's opening sequence, also officially premiered this week to coincide with the draw.

'True to football's tradition'
Zveig is immensely proud of the work, and believes his goal to "stay true to football's tradition, while capturing the event's explosive energy" was met. "From the smallest football stadium to the most majestic stadia, I feel the UEFA Europa League Anthem is the perfect soundtrack to an amazing show." Just as the UEFA Champions League theme is now globally recognised, so Zveig and UEFA are hopeful the UEFA Europa League anthem will achieve similar success.
