Azerbaijan's 2009 Player of the Year Vagif Dzhavadov has joined FC Twente on a three-and-a-half year contract after impressing for FK Qarabağ.
Undisclosed fee
The 20-year-old featured in both legs of Qarabağ's UEFA Europa League play-off against Twente, which the Dutch side won after following up a 3-1 win in Enschede with a goalless draw in Baku. "He made a good impression," said Twente coach Steve McClaren, who has brought Dzhavadov to the Eredivisie leaders for an undisclosed fee. "He can play in any position in attack and is a player for the future. Every minute Dzhavadov plays this season will be a bonus."
Famous mentor
The Baku-born forward spent time at PFC CSKA Moskva as a teenager but found his feet following a return home to play for Qarabağ, with his coach – Azerbaijan's record goalscorer, Gurban Gurbanov – helping hone his skills. Dzhavadov has scored four times in 24 international appearances, including the goal that earned a shock 1-1 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw against Russia in October.
