In-form AS Roma could be without Luca Toni for up to a month because of a calf injury the on-loan striker sustained during Saturday's 2-1 win at Juventus.
The 32-year-old, who joined on a temporary basis from FC Bayern München earlier this month, was replaced by Francesco Totti eight minutes into the Serie A fixture. Scans on Monday revealed the full extent of the problem, although Claudio Ranieri is optimistic Toni will be fit sooner than first feared. "Luca is undergoing further tests," said the Roma coach, whose team are unbeaten in 15 matches in all competitions. "The injury seems to be less serious than what we first thought, we are hopeful." The Italian international had made a promising start to his six-month spell at the Stadio Olimpico by scoring twice on his second start for the capital club, the 3-0 defeat of Genoa CFC on 17 January. Roma play Panthinaikos FC in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 on 18 and 25 February.
