Swede dreams for Levski
PFC Levski Sofia sporting director Georgi Ivanov hopes lightning strikes twice after the Bulgarian side were drawn against Swedish opposition for the second round in succession in the UEFA Europa League play-offs. "We know AIK Solna are not doing well in their league, but we mustn't lose focus," he said. "We eliminated Swedish opponents Kalmar in the previous round and we hope do it again."

Mazzarri wary of Elfsborg
SSC Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri urged caution after being drawn against IF Elfsborg in the UEFA Europa League play-offs. "It will be tough," he said. "They have already played 17 league games and are fourth in the standings. We also have the first leg at home, which is not an advantage because it means playing the decider in Sweden. That sort of thing can prove decisive in a European tie."

Having ended Club Atlético de Madrid's 14-year wait for silverware with both goals as the Spanish side defeated Fulham FC 2-1 in the UEFA Europa League final, Diego Forlán is now targeting a second trophy of the season in next week's Copa del Rey showpiece. "We deserved to win; we've put in an enormous sacrifice just to get here," he said. "In time we'll start to realise just what we've achieved tonight but now it's time to celebrate this triumph. Next week we'll be looking to win a second trophy."

Defeat 'hard to take' for Davies
Fulham FC goalscorer Simon Davies said losing 2-1 after extra time to Club Atlético de Madrid in the UEFA Europa League final is "very hard to take", but took solace from the achievement of reaching the showpiece. "Once we get home I'm sure we'll feel like we've achieved something this year but at this moment in time it's very hard to take," said the winger, who cancelled out Diego Forlán's opener in the first half. "There were chances when we played good football and caused them some problems. We came so close and it's very hard to take but congratulations to Atlético."

Asenjo doubt for Atlético final
Club Atlético de Madrid back-up goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo is in danger of missing Wednesday's UEFA Europa League final against Fulham FC in Hamburg after the 20-year-old strained right knee ligaments during the 1-1 Liga draw at Real Sporting de Gijón on Saturday. With David de Gea rested for the encounter, Asenjo was called up for his 26th appearance of the season but was forced out of the game in the 13th minute and replaced by Joel Robles.

Forlán overcomes Atlético fears
Diego Forlán admitted he feared Club Atlético de Madrid had spurned their chances of playing in the inaugural UEFA Europa League final before he struck the 102nd-minute goal that took his team past Liverpool FC on away goals. "Yeah, I feared the worst," he said, reflecting on how Yossi Benayoun had given the hosts a 2-0 lead in extra time to edge Liverpool ahead in the tie. "It became 2-0 but we knew we only needed one goal and kept going."

Petrić crushed by HSV loss
Mladen Petrić was crushed after Hamburger SV missed out on playing in the inaugural UEFA Europa League final at their own stadium, losing 2-1 at Fulham FC despite leading through the Croatia striker's thunderous free-kick. "It is hard to say why things went this way," said the 29-year-old. "After the equaliser, we pulled back too deep. In the second half we stopped pushing forward, that was our problem. This is the biggest disappointment of my career, especially after being 1-0 up." Club chairman Bernd Hoffmann added: "Two years of dreaming of reaching the final in our own stadium are over; that's very hard to take."

Gera basks in Fulham glory
Fulham match-winner Zoltán Gera was over the moon after scoring the goal that sent Fulham FC to the UEFA Europa League final, saying: "It is the most important goal that I have ever scored. I am very, very happy. It was amazing. What can I say? We did so well, every single player." Mladen Petrić's brilliant free-kick put Hamburger SV ahead in the tie, but Simon Davies equalised before Gera got the winner. Welshman Davies said: "The manager said to us just keep playing your football and you will get your reward, and that's what we did. We have had to beat some tough teams and have come from behind a few times, but we stuck together and played our football."

Torun blow for Hamburg
Hamburger SV striker Tunay Torun has been ruled out of his side's UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg against Fulham FC after being diagnosed with torn cruciate ligaments in his right knee. The 19-year-old sustained the injury after colliding with a team-mate during training last Friday. Torun has scored twice in 19 Bundesliga appearances this season and appeared eight times in the UEFA Europa League. He will be operated on next week.

Reina defiant despite defeat
Pepe Reina insists Liverpool FC's hopes of reaching the UEFA Europa League final remain intact despite their 1-0 semi-final first-leg defeat at Club Atlético de Madrid. Diego Forlán scored the only goal in the Spanish capital, leaving the Reds needing to overturn a deficit at Anfield next week. "It's not the best result," said Reina. "[But] it's only half-time and there are still 90 minutes to play. It is going to be difficult, but if there is any team that can do it with the supporters behind them, it is Liverpool. There is no doubt about that."

Fulham FC goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes the squad's long, enforced road trip to Hamburger SV could aid team spirit in Thursday's UEFA Europa League semi-final first leg. "We watched a lot of movies and had a few chats, because we had enough time during this long journey," he said. "But it was OK. UEFA Europa League semi-finalists Liverpool FC must wait to learn the severity of Fernando Torres's knee injury. "Fernando Torres was examined by a knee specialist this afternoon in Spain," read a club statement. "He received treatment and will continue to do so over the next few days, with the injury being reassessed later this week." Torres scored twice in the second leg of Liverpool's quarter-final victory over SL Benfica and will be particularly keen to be fit for the first instalment of the Reds' semi-final tie at his former employers, Club Atlético de Madrid, on 22 April.

Liverpool FC manager Rafael Benítez was impressed by his team's clinical edge after they defeated SL Benfica 4-1 at Anfield, wrapping up a 5-3 aggregate victory. "We took advantage of their weaknesses and the third goal was really, really good," the 49-year-old said. Liverpool now meet Club Atlético de Madrid in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, with Fernando Torres – scorer of two goals against Benfica – set to face his former team. Gentner gives Fulham credit
VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Christian Gentner is wary of Fulham FC's spirit given the way the Londoners came back from 4-1 down on aggregate to eliminate Juventus two weeks ago. "Everyone expected Juventus to go through so turning the game around and coming out on top demonstrates their mental strength and a will not to give up, so this something we have to take into account," said the 24-year-old, whose extra-time winner against FC Rubin Kazan sent Die Wölfe through to the quarter-finals.
