Benachour goal sufficient for PSG

Újpesti TE 0-1 Paris Saint-Germain FC (Agg: 0-4) PSG swagger into the second round.

Paris Saint-Germain FC booked their place in the UEFA Cup second round with a composed performance in Budapest where they defeated Újpesti TE 1-0 to record a 4-0 aggregate success.

Letizi on hand
Although PSG played well within themselves during the first half, they required two saves from goalkeeper Lionel Letizi to ensure the match remained scoreless until the interval. The French goalkeeper was well positioned to deny headed opportunities from Balász Farkas and Gábor Korolovszky as Újpest searched in vain for the opening goal to get them back into the tie.

Benachour winner
The second half was a different tale with PSG assuming authority. The only goal of the game came on the hour following a quick counterattack which Tunisian international Selim Benachour ended with a low shot from 12 metres which beat Géla Vlaszák.

Fernandez relieved
"Újpest didn't make it easy for us although I was confident we would qualify after the first leg," said PSG coach Luis Fernandez. "The Hungarians had to attack us tonight, and that always gives you a chance and we were fortunate enough to take the opportunity to record the win."
