History
• The Donetsk club, in its modern day form, was founded in June 1996 and replaced FC Medita in the Ukrainian third tier midway through the 1995/96 season.

• The following season Metalurh competed in the second division before making the step up to the top flight for the 1997/98 campaign.

• Metalurh's highest Premier League finish is third, achieved in 2002, 2003 and 2005. The Blue-Whites also made their UEFA Cup debut in 2002/03 but lost 10-2 on aggregate in the first round to SV Werder Bremen.

• In 2009/10 Bulgarian coach Nikolai Kostov led Metalurh to the Ukrainian Cup final where they came from 2-0 down to take the game to extra time before eventually succumbing 3-2 to SC Tavriya Simferopol.

• The Synio-bili play their home games at the 5,000-capacity Metalurh Stadium, moving to the Shakhtar Stadium for UEFA competition matches. A new 17,500-seated venue is under construction at Makiivka, near Donetsk.
