Sevilla boosted by recalls

Sevilla FC are able to welcome back several key players as they play host to Serie A strugglers Parma FC.

Sevilla FC are able to welcome back several key players as they tackle Parma FC in the first leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie.

Boost for Caparrós
Home coach Joaquín Caparrós - who will watch from the stands after a sending-off late in the second-leg success against Panathinaikos FC - is able to recall midfielder Jose Luis Martí and wing-back Adriano Correia, with the latter's recovery from a thigh injury coming well ahead of schedule.

'Tough contest'
Also back from injuries are Fernando Sales, Jesús Navas and Daniel Alves, but defender David Castedo suffered a groin strain in Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Club Atlético de Madrid and is doubtful. Winger Navas, whose speed could be deployed down the right of the Sevilla attack, expects "a tough contest", adding: "We will struggle if we are not completely focused and don't go into the game giving absolutely everything we've got," he said.

Relegation relief
Parma enjoyed a more satisfying weekend than Sevilla, easing their relegation worries when a last-gasp effort from Brazilian midfield player Fabio Simplicio edged a five-goal thriller at home to Cagliari Calcio. Marco Marchionni came on as a 65th-minute substitute and looks to have recovered from the muscle injury that ruled him out of the 2-0 defeat by S.S. Lazio last week.

Quarter rested
Coach Pietro Carmignani, though, will be without the suspended Jorge Bolano Correa and Paolo Cannavaro, with the latter beginning a two-match ban. He has also decided to rest Stefano Bettarini, Fabio Simplicio, Alberto Gilardino and Domenico Morfeo ahead of Sunday's Serie A game against Atalanta BC with Parma still only three points clear of the drop zone.

Balancing priorities
Carmignani explained: "We have to think about the game against Sevilla but we cannot forget about our current situation in Serie A. I will rest some players but it doesn't mean we are going to Spain sure of losing the match. We know that we will play only the first half of the tie there and we will have the second half in front of our own fans. We have already proved during the tournament that we can do well even without some key players."
