Late goals keep AZ rolling

Grasshopper-Club 2-5 AZ Alkmaar AZ struck three goals inside the final 12 minutes to make it two victories out of two in UEFA Cup Group C.

AZ Alkmaar struck three late goals to earn a handsome 5-2 win at Grasshopper-Club and maintain their unbeaten record on their travels this season.

Flattering scoreline
This was a second victory in UEFA Cup Group C for Louis van Gaal's side who fought back from a goal down at the interval to make it a disappointing start to the group stage for Grasshoppers. The teams were locked at 2-2 when Moussa Dembélé turned Danny Koevermans's cross past Fabio Coltorti in the 78th minute. Maarten Martens and Dembélé then added a flattering gloss to the scoreline with further goals deep into added time.

Grasshoppers jump in front
Few would have guessed at the final outcome when Grasshoppers went in front in the 29th minute as Biscotte Mbala Mbuta beat Khalid Sinouh with a low shot from close range. However, within eleven minutes of the restart the Dutch side were in front. Shota Arveladze equalised on 48 minutes, firing past Coltorti at the near post, before Demy de Zeeuw found the net from 25 metres.

Visitors regain initiative
Grasshoppers were back on level terms in the 62nd minute when Roland Schwegler supplied Eduardo and the Brazilian No10 drove home from inside the box. The introduction of Koevermans in place of Stijn Schaars helped the visitors regain the initiative, though, as the substitute set up Dembélé for AZ's third. The Swiss hosts did not recover and leaked two more goals late on. Maartens's 20-metre strike made it 4-2 in the 93rd minute before Dembélé hit the fifth two minutes later.
