Rangers record ends in Israel

Hapoel Tel Aviv FC 2-1 Rangers FC Rangers' unbeaten run in Europe this season came to an end as Barukh Dego consigned the Scots to defeat in Israel.

Rangers FC's unbeaten run in Europe this season came to an end when they tasted defeat at the hands of Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC in their UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie in Israel.

Toema free-kick
Towards the end of an eventful first half, which saw opportunities at both ends, the home side took the lead thanks to an impressive free-kick by Salim Toema. David Weir had brought down Ibe Ogbona just outside the penalty area and Toema left Allan McGregor with no chance as he curled his shot into the top corner with two minutes of the half remaining.

Novo leveller
The Scottish team levelled eight minutes after the restart when Barry Ferguson's deflected free-kick from 16 metres rebounded off the post and into the path of Nacho Novo, who bundled the ball over the goalline with his knee. Hapoel should have reclaimed the initiative soon after as Elyaniv Barda met Toema's corner and blasted over, yet the hosts were back in front with 14 minutes to go. Barda's effort looked to be heading wide but Barukh Dego burst into the area to slide in from five metres, leaving Rangers facing a difficult task in the second leg in Glasgow next week.
