Makukula scare

Gavilán chances
After the scare when Makukula went close, Getafe were altogether more menacing and Jaime Gavilán twice threatened in the opening period. The winger first drew a fine save out of Quim on 27 minutes, then just before the break. Kepa Blanco's header found Gavilán in pace on the edge of the box, but the on-loan Valencia CF man sent his shot into the side-netting.

Katsouranis intervention
Laudrup's side looked increasingly comfortable and seemed the more likely scorers at the start of the second half. Manuel Tena saw his glancing header from Cosmin Contra's free-kick fly just over, before Albín had an attempted chip comfortably saved by Quim. The quicksilver Albín then had two great chances in quick succession to put Getafe ahead, but a superb last-ditch tackle from Konstantinos Katsouranis and miss by the Uruguayan allowed Benfica to breathe again.

Clinical finish
The visitors almost grabbed a lifeline in the 70th minute when Rui Costa latched on to a loose ball and fired in a left-footed volley that Pato did well to parry. Albín was handed another chance with 13 minutes remaining though, and this time he made no mistake with a clinical finish. Having skipped past the desperate challenge of Katsouranis, Albín coolly chipped Quim from outside the area to seal Getafe's passage.
