PSG bite too much for Wolves

VfL Wolfsburg 1-3 Paris Saint-Germain FC (agg: 1-5)
Péguy Luyindula struck twice as PSG booked their place in the last 16 with minimum fuss, ending Wolfsburg's unbeaten home record in the process.

Péguy Luyindula struck twice as Paris Saint-Germain FC booked their place in the UEFA Cup Round of 16 with minimum fuss, sealing a 5-1 aggregate triumph against VfL Wolfsburg with their eighth win in ten outings.

Rothen goal
The Bundesliga outfit were always up against it after two Guillaume Hoarau goals in the last ten minutes of last week's first leg, but a difficult task became almost impossible when Luyindula made it 3-0 on aggregate with a penalty before half-time. It got worse before it got better for the hosts as Jérôme Rothen doubled PSG's lead on the night on the hour, and though they pulled one back through Makoto Hasebe, Luyindula had the final word, rising highest to head in Clément Chantôme's free-kick.

Džeko zest
That wrapped up a fairly comprehensive success but PSG, who came into the match having lost only once in seven games in all competitions, spent much of the opening exchanges pinned inside their own half. Edin Džeko started like a man on a mission, twice testing Mickaël Landreau, and the PSG keeper had to be at his best to deny Zvjezdan Misimović and Christian Gentner in quick succession.

Unbeaten record
However, just when a goal for Wolfsburg, unbeaten at home all season before tonight, seemed a matter of time, the tide turned. Luyindula and Sylvain Armand both troubled keeper André Lenz, who could do nothing seven minutes before half-time when Luyindula converted from the spot after Jan Šimůnek had upended Rothen. The PSG winger lashed home the second himself and while Hasebe gave local fans some reason to cheer three minutes later, Luyindula rubber-stamped a 3-1 win with his sixth UEFA Cup goal of the campaign.
