Form guide favouring Dortmund against Sevilla

Borussia Dortmund will hoping recent trends continue in Group J as they look to extend a run of four consecutive wins in Europe against a Sevilla FC side smarting from four straight losses.

It promises to be a match of contrasts in UEFA Europa League Group J as a Borussia Dortmund team boasting four straight wins in Europe welcomes a Sevilla FC lineup on a four-game losing streak at this level.

Previous meetings
• The two sides will be meeting for the first time in UEFA club competition.

• Dortmund's record in 14 outings against Spanish clubs reads W4 D4 L6 (W3 D3 L1 at home). They have not won in their last four home fixtures against Liga opponents, a run which stretches back to a 3-1 success against RC Deportivo La Coruña on 6 December 1994.

• Sevilla's ten encounters with Bundesliga sides have ended W6 D3 L1 (W2 D1 L1 in Germany). They have avoided defeat on their last three trips to Germany since a 4-0 setback at 1. FC Kaiserslautern on 8 December 1982.

Match background
• Dortmund have won their last four assignments home and away in Europe since a 2-0 defeat at home against Udinese Calcio in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup first round.

• A 4-0 victory at home to FK Qarabağ in this season's UEFA Europa League play-offs ended Dortmund's four-game wait for a European home success. Their last victory prior to that was a 1-0 triumph against FK Austria Wien on 15 October 2003.

• Following their Matchday 1 home loss to Paris Saint-Germain FC, Sevilla are now without a win in five European games and have lost their four most recent continental matches. They are also without a victory in their last three UEFA club competition fixtures on the road.

Team facts
• Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp started his career as a striker, converting to a defender mid-way through an 11-year spell at 1. FSV Mainz 05. Moving from the pitch to the bench in 2001, he led Mainz to the top division in Germany – and into European competition – for the first time, but stepped down at the end of the 2007/08 campaign to replace Thomas Doll as Dortmund coach.

• Sevilla dismissed coach Antonio Álvarez in the wake of Sunday's 2-0 Liga defeat at Hercules CF. It was their first domestic league loss of the year, but followed an exit from the UEFA Champions League play-offs and a 1-0 loss at home against Paris Saint-Germain FC in their opening UEFA Europa League group stage game.

• The new man in charge is Gregorio Manzano. A head coach since his mid-20s, he first took charge of a top division game with Real Valladolid in 1999/2000. He won the 2002/03 Spanish Cup in his first spell with RCD Mallorca, rejoining the club in 2006 for a four-year stint before leaving in May 2010.

• Sevilla's next goal will be their 100th in the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League. This is their 66th game in the competition.
