Jallet 'delighted' as PSG stay top

Christophe Jallet said the blow of Paris Saint-Germain FC conceding their first goal since August was more than softened by the equaliser at Borussia Dortmund that kept them top of Group J.

Paris Saint-Germain FC full-back Christophe Jallet said the blow of conceding a goal for the first time since August was softened by the point at Borussia Dortmund that strengthened the French club's position in UEFA Europa League Group J.

Luck is on our side at the moment and we have to make the most of it
Clément Chantôme

The section leaders were indebted to substitute Clément Chantôme, whose late equaliser cancelled out Nuri Şahin's 50th-minute penalty for the home side. Nuri's calm finish was the first goal Antoine Kombouaré's side had let in for 725 minutes, a run stretching back to a 3-1 league defeat at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard on 29 August.

Jallet said: "I don't think conceding that goal is the most important thing to take out of this game. We're all delighted with the point, and I think that because we managed to get the equaliser, we'll find it easier to accept our run of clean sheets ending."

The draw kept PSG at the top of their section, a point ahead of Sevilla FC and still three clear of Dortmund. Chantôme, who in the 87th minute collected a low cross from fellow substitute Guillaume Hoarau before firing high into the roof of Romain Weidenfeller's net, was most pleased with the spirit shown to extend the club's run of games without defeat to eight in all competitions.

"We managed to continue our good unbeaten run here and long may it continue," Chantôme said. "Luck is on our side at the moment and we have to make the most of it."

Back-to-back home games on 4 November against Dortmund and four weeks later against Sevilla provide the French capital club with the opportunity to press home their advantage in the group and Jallet believes the late equaliser totally changed the picture. "Had we lost, three clubs would have been level on six points," said the former FC Lorient right-back.

"So getting this point removes a thorn from our side, and we deserved it based on our second-half performance as we forced our way back into the game using all the determination we're showing every time we play at the moment. We've put distance between ourselves and Dortmund and it's up to us to complete the job in our upcoming home games."

Bundesliga leaders Dortmund have to make up for the five points they have dropped at home – the PSG draw following on from a 1-0 loss to Sevilla on Matchday 2 – by producing the goods on their travels. Defender Mats Hummels is confident Jürgen Klopp's side have what it takes to turn an awkward situation around.

"If we win in Paris then we'd join them on seven points," Hummels said. "Sevilla could be on nine points at that stage and that wouldn't be perfect for us but we still have a very good chance of going through. We played very well and we are capable of winning all our remaining games. We have no reason to be ashamed of our display."
