Nuri Şahin's penalty ended Paris Saint-Germain FC's long run of clean sheets but Borussia Dortmund were forced to settle for a UEFA Europa League Group J point after Clément Chantôme's late equaliser.

Şahin, whose added-time strike at 1. FC Köln on Friday sent Dortmund top of the Bundesliga, looked like being the match-winner once again when he became the first player to score against the French club in 725 minutes. However, Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp's rueful smile spoke volumes after substitute Chantôme levelled matters for the section leaders three minutes from time, third-placed Dortmund dropping more home points having lost 1-0 to Sevilla FC on Matchday 2.

Dortmund, as they had against the Spanish team, dominated the chance count. In the 14th minute, Lucas Barrios flicked Shinji Kagawa's cross against the post. PSG began to look more dangerous as the first half drew to a close, with defender Zoumana Camara heading wide from Nenê's inviting free-kick.

Five minutes after the break Mamadou Sakho, hitherto impressive at centre-half for the visitors, blotted his copy book when he laid hands on Jakub Błaszczykowski after allowing the Poland midfielder to get the wrong side of him in the area. Şahin calmly sent Apoula Édel the wrong way from the spot on 50 minutes. Shortly afterwards, defender Neven Subotić spurned a headed chance to double the lead.

Substitute Robert Lewandowski's goal-line clearance prevented Sakho atoning for his earlier lapse, only for the goal to come late on as PSG coach Antoine Kombouaré's decision to throw on Guillaume Hoarau and Chantôme paid off, the latter steering the French international striker's low cross into the roof of the net. The two clubs meet again on 4 November in Paris.
