Karpaty hope for fond PSG farewell

Eliminated FC Karpaty Lviv will look to bow out of Group J on a high as they host a Paris Saint-Germain FC side already certain of a place in the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

FC Karpaty Lviv will look to bow out of Group J on a high as they host a Paris Saint-Germain FC side already certain of a place in the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

• Karpaty have yet to pick up a point in the section and have long since been resigned to elimination. PSG will top Group J if they avoid defeat, but could lose and stay first if Sevilla FC's home tie against Borussia Dortmund ends in a draw or an away win.

Previous meetings
• Karpaty took on French opponents for the first time when the sides met in Paris on Matchday 2, but Christophe Jallet and Nenê both scored inside the first 20 minutes to hand the visitors a 2-0 defeat.

• PSG's record in seven games against Ukrainian clubs reads W5 D1 L1 (W2 D0 L1 in Ukraine). They were eliminated by FC Dynamo Kyiv in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup quarter-finals, their most recent two-legged tie against Ukrainian opposition.

Match background
• Karpaty have not won in their last seven continental fixtures, following up two draws with five straight defeats in Group J. They have not scored in four UEFA Europa League outings since their 4-3 defeat by Dortmund on Matchday 1.

• Karpaty's 4-0 loss at Sevilla FC on Matchday 4 was their heaviest away defeat in UEFA club competition.

• PSG are unbeaten in their five Group J games. They have scored once in each of their away fixtures in the section.

Team facts
• Karpaty set a new club record against Sevilla on Matchday 3, and will break it again on Matchday 6. This will be the latest date in any calendar year that they have contested a UEFA club competition game. The 2-0 Matchday 2 loss to PSG came on the 40th anniversary of their previous latest date, a 3-3 draw at FC Steaua Bucureşti on 30 September 1970.

• Karpaty's Vyacheslav Checher celebrates his 30th birthday on the day of the PSG game.

• Born in Kursk, Russia, but Belarusian by nationality, Karpaty coach Oleg Kononov began his playing days with FC Iskra Smolensk but spent most of his career in Belarus, winning the nation's player of the year award in 1998, during his time at FC Torpedo Minsk. He took over at Karpaty in 2008 following a spell as assistant coach at FC Sheriff in Moldova.

• Antoine Kombouaré was hired as PSG coach in May 2009, finishing his first full season by leading the team to success in the 2009/10 French Cup. Initially a defender for FC Nantes, the New Caledonian-born player represented PSG from 1990 to 1995, winning a league title, two French Cups and a League Cup before moving on to FC Sion, then Aberdeen FC. PSG's reserve coach for a while, he trained RC Strasbourg and Valenciennes FC before returning to his old club.
