Sevilla FC advanced to the UEFA Europa League round of 32 after goals from Ndri Romaric and Frédéric Kanouté earned the Liga side a 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund.

Knowing only victory would suffice to go into Friday's draw, the visitors hit the front early on through Shinji Kagawa. Gregorio Manzan's side responded impressively and were ahead before the break. Neven Subotić's second-half header ensured the hosts were left to sweat on their progress, however.

Sevilla headed into the decider having lost their five previous games in all competitions, prompting an air of unease to surrounded Manzano's team prior to kick-off. Looking to take advantage of any such nerves, Dortmund were in front after just four minutes, Kagawa latching on to Julien Escudé's loose clearance before directing a precise shot past Andrés Palop.

The Liga side rallied and were denied an equaliser twice in quick succession by Roman Weidenfeller, the visiting goalkeeper expertly tipping Romaric's close-range effort over the top before beating out Alexis's dipping half-volley.

Momentum now on their side, Sevilla eventually drew level just after the half-hour. Kanouté's chipped centre saw Luis Fabiano and Subotić challenging each other but both were left powerless as Łukasz Piszczek inadvertently steered the ball into the path of Romaric, who stroked in with ease.

It got even better for the two-time UEFA Cup winners four minutes later, Kanouté putting them in front with a glancing header from Diego Perotti's angled cross. Now chasing the game, Jürgen Klopp's side's hopes were raised shortly after the restart, Nuri Şahin's corner reaching Subotić, who headed past Palop for 2-2.

Kagawa then struck straight at the home No1 from close range while Lucas Barrios also went close. It was not to be for Dortmund, though, with Sevilla holding on to join Paris Saint-Germain FC in qualifying from Group J.
