Club Brugge sign off against Villarreal

This will be Club Brugge KV's final game in this season's UEFA Europa League but they will be eager to sign off on a high against a Villarreal CF side already through to the round of 32.

This will be Club Brugge KV's final game in this season's UEFA Europa League but they will be eager to sign off on a high against a Villarreal CF side already certain of their place in the round of 32.

• A 3-0 win against NK Dinamo Zagreb confirmed Villarreal's place in the knockout phase, but they must win to be sure of finishing top. A 1-1 draw at PAOK FC last time out marked the end of Club Brugge's last-32 dream.

Previous meetings
• Ronald Vargas's first-half dismissal shaped the sides' first meeting on Matchday 2. Villarreal took advantage to win 2-1, with goals from Giuseppe Rossi and Gonzalo coming either side of a Ryan Donk strike.

• Club Brugge's record from 21 games against Spanish opposition now reads W5 D6 L10 (W5 D2 L3 at home). A 1-0 win against Valencia CF in last season's round of 32 ended a five-game wait for a home victory over a Liga side stretching back to a 2-1 win against Club Atlético de Madrid in the 1991/92 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals.

Match background
• Club Brugge have not won in five UEFA Europa League group stage games this season. They have been alternating draws and defeats since Matchday 1, and if that pattern continues, they are due another loss against Villarreal.

• Villarreal have not scored or picked up a point in their two Group D away games to date. However, in last season's competition, they lost their opening two away fixtures in the group stage and won the third.

Team facts
• Club Brugge have more UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League experience than any other side in the group stage; this will be their 130th game.

• This will be Villarreal's 50th game in the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Cup with the previous 49 having ended W27 D11 L11.

• A winger for Roda JC and PSV Eindhoven who was capped three times by the Netherlands, Club Brugge coach Adrie Koster started his coaching career in the lower leagues in his home country, before taking charge of AFC Ajax's reserve team. The Amsterdam side's caretaker coach in the 2007/08 season, he moved to Bruges in the summer of 2009.

• Up until February 2010, Juan Carlos Garrido was the long-serving coach of Villarreal's reserve side. He replaced Ernesto Valverde at the helm of the first team and duly secured qualification for Europe. More strong performances in the autumn led to his contract with the club being extended until June 2014.
