"Perhaps in the end we lacked a little European experience," said Hannover 96 coach Mirko Slomka after his team twice lost the lead against FC København in a 2-2 home draw which prevented the German side going two points clear at the top of UEFA Europa League Group B. César Santin's dramatic late equaliser kept FCK within a point of both R. Standard de Liège and Hannover, leaving coach Roland Nilsson and midfielder Johnny Thomsen in confident mood.
Mirko Slomka, Hannover coach
I'm really annoyed at missing such a good chance to record our first home win in the group stage. We were the better team and had the better chances but FC København have more experience at this level. Perhaps in the end we lacked a little European experience.
Sergio Pinto, Hannover midfielder
What good can I take from my goal when we only managed to go home with a point? We dominated our opponents and deserved our first-half lead. At the beginning of the second half we weren't aggressive enough and were punished. It would have been great if my goal had been enough to win. However, the group is still open for anyone to qualify and we must do everything we can in the remaining games to get enough points to take us through to the knockout stage.
Christian Schulz, Hannover defender
Of course we are not satisfied with the point but now we have chosen the difficult path we just have to deal with it. We are still second in the table and have every chance of qualifying for the next round.
Roland Nilsson, København coach
We didn't get going in the first half and Hannover had us pinned back. They were controlling the game and we didn't perform the way we wanted to. The second half was a big improvement from our perspective. We tried to go forward more and managed to score a couple of good goals. It's a difficult place to come, so it's a great point for us. We can go into our home games now with new confidence.
Johnny Thomsen, København midfielder
When we lost the first goal we stayed calm and still believed in ourselves. We kept cool and tried to play our own game. It was a poor first half from us but we enjoyed more possession after the break. Even when we conceded the second goal we felt we could get something from this game and we did. It's not been a good European campaign for us so today was important as it was perhaps the hardest game for us. We have a couple of great home matches coming up now and we're at our best at home so hopefully we can pick up some more points.
