Disappointed to be omitted from Denmark's 2010 FIFA World Cup squad, Michael Silberbauer can expect to be included in Morten Olsen's plans for UEFA EURO 2012 having appeared in five qualifiers and a couple of friendlies since. Highly versatile, he can operate anywhere in midfield or defence.

• Joined Danish top-flight outfit Aalborg BK from home-town team Støvring IF in July 2000 and proved a fine acquisition, going on to make 103 Superligaen appearances in three and a half seasons and twice winning the club's player of the year award.

• Moved to FC København in January 2004 and helped the capital side to a domestic double a few months later; became a prominent figure over the next four campaigns, winning two more league titles, in 2005/06 and 2006/07.

• Handed his senior international debut in a Glasgow friendly against Scotland in August 2002, it proved to be an isolated appearance, his second cap not coming until two and a half years later and his first start being delayed until May 2006.

• Helped København reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, in which he started all six matches, in 2006/07, scoring a crucial goal in the third qualifying round against AFC Ajax in Amsterdam (2-0).

• Returned to the Netherlands in 2008 when he joined FC Utrecht and scored six goals in 90 Eredivisie appearances for the club as well as starting all six games of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League group stage; moved on to BSC Young Boys in July 2011, after which he became more frequently used by Denmark.
