Genk head to Hungary with victory ambition

KRC Genk are a win shy of the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League, though the Group G leaders will face a Videoton FC side determined to make headway themselves in Hungary.

Videoton FC will bid to avenge a matchday one defeat – and potentially earn a place in the round of 32 – as KRC Genk head for Hungary in UEFA Europa League Group G.

• Videoton would qualify with a win provided FC Basel 1893 fail to beat Sporting Clube de Portugal in the other Group G game. Genk will go through with a victory regardless.

Previous meetings
• Goals from Jelle Vossen, Thomas Buffel and Benjamin De Ceulaer earned a 3-0 success for Genk when the sides met for the first time on matchday one, in what was the Belgian team's first encounter with Hungarian opposition.

• Videoton faced a Belgian club for the first time in qualifying, overcoming KAA Gent in the third qualifying round, winning 1-0 at home and then 3-0 away.

• Contests between clubs from the two nations have been remarkably even over the years: in 28 UEFA games, both countries have the record W11 D6 L11 (W8 D3 L3 at home – W3 D3 L8 away).

Match background
• Videoton are unbeaten in their last ten European home games (W5 D5) since a 3-0 loss to Hibernian FC in the first round of the UEFA Cup on 26 September 1989.

• Vidi are looking to become the first Hungarian side to make it through the group stage of a UEFA club competition.

• Genk are on a five-match unbeaten run in Europe – three home wins and two away draws.

• Genk have yet to win an away fixture in a major UEFA competition group stage, recording four wins and four defeats.

Team facts
• Videoton have scored all five of their group stage goals in the first half of their games.

• The next goal Videoton concede will be their 50th in the UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League, while they are three strikes shy of a half century of goals for; this will be their 45th game in the competitions.

• Videoton midfielder Balász Tóth played for Genk from 2007–11, though he spent the final season of his contract on loan in the Netherlands with VVV-Venlo. He scored eight goals in 69 league games in Belgium.

• Genk boast Hungarian talent in the form of goalkeeper László Köteles, who joined the club – initially on loan from Diósgyöri VTK – in August 2009. Genk briefly had three Hungarian players on their books – Köteles, Tóth and midfielder Dániel Tőzsér, who joined Genoa CFC in the summer.

• Videoton are coached by 51-times capped former Portugal midfielder Paulo Sousa, who won back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles as a player with Juventus (1995/96) and Borussia Dortmund (1996/97), as well as domestic titles in Portugal, Italy and Germany. He coached in England with Queens Park Rangers FC, Swansea City AFC and Leicester City FC before joining Videoton in May 2011.

• Genk's coach since August 2011 has been Dutchman Mario Been, most famous for his work as a midfielder – and then coach – with Feyenoord and their satellite club SBV Excelsior. He led NEC Nijmegen through the group stage of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup, but lost out to KAA Gent in the 2010/11 play-offs when he was coaching Feyenoord.
