Ten-man Dynamo Kyiv stun sorry Thun

FC Thun 0-2 FC Dynamo Kyiv
Dieumerci Mbokani's 17th-minute dismissal did not hamper Dynamo as Andriy Yarmolenko scored one and forced a Lukas Schenkel own goal.

Andriy Yarmolenko once again proved the scourge of FC Thun as he inspired FC Dynamo Kyiv to a 2-0 win that looked unlikely when Dieumerci Mbokani was sent off on 17 minutes.

The forward was booked twice in a matter of seconds and Thun must instantly have believed the Group G spoils were there for the taking. Instead, it was Dynamo who forged ahead as Lukas Schenkel turned Yarmolenko's cross into his own net. The winger, the inspiration behind the Ukrainian outfit's 3-0 victory when these sides met two weeks ago, then sealed the points, curling a free-kick beyond Guillaume Faivre midway through the second period.

It was a result that had seemed wholly unlikely early on, even before Mbokani saw red. Christian Schneuwly almost struck inside the first minute, in fact, running straight up the middle to meet a ball over the top, but he slipped as he hit it first time and Olexandr Shovkovskiy saved.

Berat Sadik went even closer, connecting with the inside of the post as he turned inside and fired across goal, and when Mbokani was sent off the writing looked to be on the wall for Dynamo. The DR Congo striker was initially booked for a foul, before earning a second yellow card for remonstrating with the referee. But Thun's impetus seemed to disappear with Mbokani, and on 29 minutes disaster struck for the Swiss side.

Yarmolenko made good purchase as he whipped in a low cross and, though there was little obvious threat, Schenkel contrived to spear it past his own goalkeeper. Thun never really recovered. They enjoyed more possession but it was not until Yarmolenko made it 2-0 that they really stepped it up – and to no avail.
