Estoril Praia got their campaign up and running as a pair of second-half goals saw off Panathinaikos FC to earn their first Group E points.

After both teams failed to win a point on matchday one, it seemed the duo were more determined to prevent a second loss in the early stages. That led to a cagey first period, though it was the hosts who had the better of a limited number of chances. Matias Cabrera drove over from outside the area before Panathinaikos defender Gordon Schildenfeld made a decisive tackle on Tozé who had scampered into the box.

The second half did not open up significantly but Estoril came out with the knowledge they had what it took to secure the three points. The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute and it was all down to the work of Sebá. The No19 charged down an attempted clearance on the right flank, picked up the loose ball and charged into the area before laying back to half-time substitute Kléber who had a simple task of stroking in from close.

Sebá's flick on from a corner was almost turned in by Yohan Tavares at the back post, but José Couceiro's men did get a second on 66 minutes when Cabrera was given an age on the right to pick his cross, and he found the run of Diogo Amado who headed past Stefanos Kotsolis. The Greek visitors failed to muster a comeback and now face an uphill struggle if they are to make it out of a section they currently prop up.
