Super Cup date for Hauge

Norwegian referee Terje Hauge will take charge of Friday's UEFA Super Cup game between FC Porto and Valencia CF.
Norwegian referee Terje Hauge has been appointed to take charge of the UEFA Super Cup match between FC Porto and Valencia CF at the Stade Louis II in Monaco on Friday.

EURO team
The appointment is the latest big-match date for 38-year-old Hauge, who was one of 12 referees who officiated at the UEFA EURO 2004™ final round in Portugal this summer. He was in charge of the Group A game between Russia and Portugal, and the Group D encounter between Germany and the Czech Republic.

Big match
"It is fantastic to get this appointment," Hauge told uefa.com. "It's a big match with everyone looking forward to the start of the new season, and it's another big moment for me as a referee." Hauge's assistants on Friday will be compatriots Steiner Holvik and Ole Hermann Borgan, with Tom Henning Øvrebø acting as fourth official.

Teenage debut
Hauge began his refereeing career as a teenager in 1982, was overseeing Norwegian top-flight games by 1990, and joined the international list in 1993. A health official by profession, he has also been working as a referee consultant in his local football association in Bergen, giving advice and helping the development of match officials of all standards.

International rise
The Norwegian's international rise began with the UEFA European Under-18 Championship in Spain in 1994, and was followed by the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup in Portugal in 1997, and the FIFA World Youth Championship the same year. Hauge was named as a fourth official for UEFA EURO 2000™, and went to the World Youth Championship the following year, taking charge of the quarter-final between Argentina and France.

Top experience
From 2001, Hauge has regularly been appointed for UEFA European Championship and UEFA Champions League fixtures, and he was one of the officials in Korea/Japan for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Last November, he also refereed the vital UEFA EURO 2004™ play-off between Scotland and the Netherlands in Glasgow.

Goal precedent
The Super Cup will be Hauge's third visit to the Stade Louis II. The two previous matches have produced an avalanche of 17 goals. Hauge officiated at AS Monaco FC's 5-1 win against Belgian visitors K. Lierse SK in the 1997/98 Champions League, and was the man in the middle last November when Monaco defeated RC Deportivo La Coruña by a record-breaking 8-3 scoreline.
