Fischer joins leaders with treble

Manuel Fischer, Bojan Krkić and Tomáš Necid are the top scorers after the group stage - but only one is set to start in Thursday's semi-finals.

Substitute strikes again
Spain's Krkić, at 15 the youngest player left in the finals, was the first to take his tally to four last night when he converted a penalty he had won himself in their 2-0 win against Russia. He had previously struck a hat-trick on Matchday 1 against hosts Luxembourg. Incredibly, Krkić has achieved this mark even though coach Juan Santisteban is only using him as a half-time substitute at this tourmament due to his age.

Fischer achievement
Level with the Spaniard is Necid from the Czech Republic, who they meet in the last four. However, as well as scoring twice against Serbia and Montenegro and Belgium, he was booked in each contest, meaning a suspension for the semi-finals. So the only of the top three likely to begin on Thursday, when his team play Russia, is Germany's Manuel Fischer, scorer of a first-half hat-trick against Serbia and Montenegro, which took his tally including qualifying to a tournament-leading 12 goals.
